Tui Na book

August 1st, 2007

So Tom Bisio has just published a book on Tui Na that I’m pretty keen to take a look at. Hopefully it won’t be too long before I see a copy……c’mon amazon, get it already! Tui Na is the massage component of Chinese Medicine. And I suppose that shiatsu is in a way a Japanese version of Tui Na.

I really like Tom Bisio’s writing. I read his last book A tooth from the tiger’s mouth and it was pretty interesting. It offers up a TCM based first aid approach to treating physical injuries. It’s primarily aimed at athletes and martial artists, but I think most people interested in bodywork and physical arts could get something from the book.

You can get a taste for Mr Bisio’s writing at the bottom of this page on his website, where he has published a bunch of articles he wrote for Inside Kung Fu magazine. Anyone in the martial arts might be interested in some of his recipes for dit da jows (basically trauma liniments that help the healing process). Great stuff!

Yes good! For one thing, its a high quality book. It is obvious that much effort went into making it very professional. The pictures are black and white but very clear. It is a hardback, textbook style book.

Secondly, the descriptions of the hand techniques are clear, along with the pictures.

Best thing….. if you have ever bought a book that desribed Qi Gong movements and found it frustating, you will not feel that way with this book. The written word along with the pictures are amazing.

In the end though, you really do have to take the classes and learn Tom and Franks tecniques. So let me know when you come to the States!
