The zen of shiatsu

August 10th, 2007

Good shiatsu really is just good listening . Even the actual bodywork is based on listening except this time it is listening with our hands. We listen for kyo and jitsu in the hara. We listen when working the meridians as well. First we listen with the hands for the connection to the meridian or acupoint. Then, if we are tonifying, we listen for the energy to come up to meet our point of contact, if we are dispersing, we listen for the “stuck” energy to move.

For me this is really key to good shiatsu. Trying to “do” shiatsu is a mistake. What we need to do is listen, reflect the client’s need, respond to the movement of energy in their body. This is the zen of zen shiatsu.
