Look out the window

August 14th, 2007

I’ve always been a fan of William Gibson’s books. Last year, I re-read Neuromancer, about fifteen years after I first read it, and I loved every page. I’m not really into sci-fi books, but Gibson was revolutionary. Life imitating art comes to mind reading his work. Anyway, he has a new book out soon, and I stumbled on this quote from him at this blog:

That’s why a term like “cyberspace” starts to go the way of all those things in the 19th century that started with the word “electro” — electro-water, electro-toothbrush. Electricity was a novelty. But as everything is increasingly transacted in what we used to call cyberspace, cyberspace ceases to exist. What becomes special is the world that’s not in it.

Nothing revolutionary there, but a small reminder (to myself as much as anyone else) to unplug a bit at the end of the day. Switch off the ‘puter and look out the window a bit. Maybe even go get a shiatsu :)
