Don’t Click It
August 21st, 2007All that clicking on the mouse getting you down, giving you repetitive strain injury? Here is a cool site that gets by without you having to click at all. Yeah, it’s only a bit of fun to prove a concept, but I like it. These are the sorts of things website and software designers should be thinking about.
I wrote a post about using the Dvorak keyboard layout on the old version of my blog - basically, the usual QWERTY keyboard layout was designed for typewriters to make sure that the most commonly used key combinations did not cause the typewriters to jam. This isn’t a problem with computers since there are no typebars. The Dvorak keyboard layout was designed to reduce typing fatigue and increases typing efficiency. I’ve been using the Dvorak layout for about 5 years now. Check it out, try it out; the learning curve really isn’t that steep.

I like to think I am not on the PC enough to get an injury but if I keep up with this blogging, that might change. lol
Have you any clients who got strain in the mouse scroll finger? They are always amazed when I suggest that is the cause of the pain.
As for that keyboard, I am to hardheaded. It would take me forever to learn a new keyboard.

Haven’t seen anyone with mouse scroll finger…..yet :).
Actually, it only took me about a month to learn the new keyboard layout, and it forced me to learn to touch type as well because I didn’t physically swap any of the actual keys around - I just changed the software. It’s quite funny if anyone else tries to use my computer now - they type away for a bit and then see gibberish on the screen….always makes me chuckle. lol
