BBC complementary therapies gone
February 26th, 2008So, not long after I wrote a post on the BBC’s complementary health section, I read on Tracy’s blog (here and here) that they have deleted the section on complementary health.
That’s pretty sad because I found the site to be a nice introduction to various complementary therapies. To just delete the entire section without even leaving an archived copy up to read through represents a rather disappointing loss of information. Time for a visit to the internet archive wayback machine.

I too am really disappointed at the BBC’s decision to arbitrarily delete the complementary medicine section. Alternative healing is a massive field, and some therapies will work for some people but not for others and therefore it is important for the general public to have reliable information on as many therapies as possible.
At a time when conventional medicine is finally accepting the efficacy of several complementary therapies, and is prescribing acupuncture and aromatherapy for example on the NHS. It seems rather short sighted of the BBC’s ‘powers that be’ to marginalise the alternative therapy scene.
Practitioners of alternative therapies offer help and healing to all who approach them, but without the recognition of figureheads like the BBC fewer people will know how to access this help.
