Rest in peace – Chris Jarmey

November 17th, 2008

I only just found out about this; being absorbed in my own life and not really being “in the loop” with a lot of other shiatsu people, but Chris Jarmey died on Novermber 9th 2008.  Chris was the principal of the European School of Shiatsu – the school that I studied at for my last year of shiatsu training.

Chris Jarmey was very active in the shiatsu community in the UK – apart from setting up and running the ESS, he was a prolific writer and teacher. If you are in the “shiatsu world” in the UK, you have probably heard of Chris, maybe even used one of his books as a reference or source book for your course. He was one of the earliest proponents of shiatsu in the UK.

My own introduction to shiatsu came from Chris when I attended a basic two day course many years ago which he taught. I only met Chris a few times in the course of my shiatsu study, but it is a sad day when someone so prominent in the field dies.

My thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in peace.

I only found out today about Chris Jarmey’s death. I did a Shiatsu weekend with him in around 1987 at Lower Shaw Farm. Really enjoyed his presence and gave him a lift back to London after with my then girlfriend who died in 1988. So I’m sad to hear of his death but he is not forgotten and it was good to hear that Lower Shaw Farm is still going over 20 years later. My thoughts are with him and his family.
