Shiatsu is treasured

November 8th, 2007

A few weeks ago, The Treasury held a health and wellbeing day and invited me to do some shiatsu taster sessions. Working at wellbeing days can be a little frustrating at times because the conditions aren’t always conducive to giving shiatsu. Usually you have a stand in a noisy hall and have to somehow divide your time between giving shiatsu and talking to passers-by who are trying to find out more about the therapies on offer. People are also a bit hesitant about receiving massage (even clothed massage such as shiatsu) out in the open, and with a lot of activity going on around, recipients can get distracted during the treatment. It’s a challenging environment to work in to say the least.

Not so at The Treasury! This one was super-well organised and they publicised everything in advance. Those interested in receiving shiatsu emailed and phoned me and I was fully booked days in advance! Then, they had a room set aside for the actual shiatsu treatments which was perfect! The sessions were short (10 to 15 minutes), but everyone who came to try shiatsu got a relaxed, quiet environment, which, given that many of them had never had shiatsu before, helped to give a good first impression of the benefits of shiatsu.

The Treasury really came through with excellent organisation, and I had a great day. People seemed to really enjoy the shiatsu as well, and it was very satisfying to see them walk out of the taster treatments visibly calmer and more relaxed.

Thanks to all those at The Treasury who put in the time to organise the event. And thanks to Miriam who recomended me to the Treasury!

p.s. Miriam is a shiatsu practitioner in Gloucestershire so if anyone is up there and wants to get some great shiatsu, contact me and I will put you in touch.
